Ursula Roma, artist
I’ve been an artist all of my life, but metal became my passion several years ago when I took a welding class and made some figures from found materials. I was taken by the practical and ornamental qualities of metal and instantly wanted to experiment in depth to translate my illustration style into this new medium. I illustrate and design all of the products I fabricate, and have created many metal pieces for a variety of applications that you can see on the Gallery page.
In 2011, I was commissioned by a local arts organization to design 16 large metal flower sculptures for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital outdoor courtyard. In 2012, I designed and produced a sign for a neighborhood arts center, and in the following year, I created the logo identity, exterior signage and matching bracket for a pet supply store. In the summer of 2014, I created designs for a six-panel ornamental balcony railing which included trees, birds, dragonflies, flowers—a gorgeous landscape of varied life. Over the years, I have created many laser cut metal pieces of wall art and garden fencing which sell at art shows, in local shops and on the web. I developed trellis designs for gardens, window guards, and privacy screens for residential security.
